Wednesday Open Thread: Respect for Puerto Rico

Reggaeton music artist Nicky Jam has rescinded his endorsement of Donald Trump as a result of the racist and degrading comments delivered by a comedian who performed at a recent Trump campaign event, particularly those targeting Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans.

Nicky Jam was one of the only Reggaeton artists to support Trump. He got a lot of heat from other musicians about it. He attended a Trump rally in Las Vegas in September, where Trump, having no idea who he was, introduced him as a female telling the audience "She's hot." Today, in rescinding his endorsement in this Instagram video in Spanish he said: (rough translation)

"The reason why I supported Donald Trump was because I thought it was the best thing for the economy in the United States, where many Latinos live ... I thought it was the best move. Never in my life did I think that a month later a comedian was going to come to criticize my country and talk bad about my country and therefore, I renounce any support to Donald Trump and That’s why I’m renouncing my support for Donald Trump and stepping away from any political conversation. Puerto Rico deserves respect.” he said.

Puerto Ricans can't vote in the U.S. Presidential election, but they have a lot of weight with relatives and friends who can vote. Nicky Jam has 43 million followers on Instagram. In 3 hours, the post had more than 85,000 likes.

Also today, Arnold Schwarzenegger broke with Republicans and said he's voting for Kamala Harris. [More...]

The Netflix biographic series about Nicky Jam, Nicky Jam, El Ganador, is really good. My favorite song of his is Hasta La Manacer (video here). It's also the only song of his I can sing along with in Spanish, thanks to this video from the Lyrica app which helps you learn Spanish by singing songs.

I started visiting San Juan on vacations when I was in high school, but always went to San Juan, and hotels in Condado or Miramar. My parents moved from New York to Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico when I started law school. They also lived in Aguadilla. They rented a house on the former Ramey Air Force Base for I think $100 a month, and a beach shack on the famous Rincon surfing beach south of Aguadilla. It's where I spent every law school vacation for three years, each time bringing a different law school friend. I loved those years, and I love Puerto Rico.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

is funny. I have to laugh when conservatives now complain about Drudge and people like George Conway. Nobody elevated Drudge like conservatives.

A Harris rally today in Raleigh. Tons of people. She can manage to get to rallies when she is supposed to unlike orange moron who makes his peons wait for sometimes hours.

I am such a roller coaster over this election. I quit watching cable news because I needed Xanax afterwards. Do they realize how much they are stressing voters out ?

Kudos to you for going to a rally.

If he does he should be arrested.

I really think the performance that's coming could be his final undoing.

Start the terrorist attacks earlier I guess. My fervent wish is that it will be an early night and it won't matter what he says.

I believe a majority of the "battleground states" announced their results at least a day and as long a a few weeks after the last election.  Voting is going to be so tight in a number of states, I don't see a winner being evident for sometime after the 5th.

pretty much the thoughts of the pundits et.al.

Conservatives however are whining about their voters not showing up so far. However that doesn't mean they will not come out on election day.

I just dread yet another repeat of 2020 with the lies, court cases, election officials threatened. It was a literal nightmare in GA. You wondered if you could go somewhere and not be threatened or shot by a Trumper. Four years later Ruby and Shea are finally getting justice for what happened to them.

and recounting and then recounting votes again. So there will be no victor Nov. 5. And it's all because of the Orange Moron. It is completely his fault that states will be reluctant to release votes counts too early. They will want to get it right. And that still will not stop that GD blowhard from spewing his vitriol. And the lawsuits.

This SOB has me exhausted. He has been running for 3 GD years now. Eff him. Eff the his GD family. I hope I can outlive him just the pleasure of pi$$ing on his grave.

They even stopped attempts to change laws so votes could be counted before election day.

It's insane.  But I'm tellin ya. He WILL declare victory election night and then it will be on.

you are not alone.  I think when he tries this game again it will blow up in his face.  Bigly.

No one wants this but the 25% but he is going to try to steal the election.

    It's that or prison.

That's it. Just applications to register. No ballots, not votes, nada. This is a sign that the system actually does work. Someone tried to abuse the system, the system caught them.
